How to use the PDF Password Remover
Banks, insurers and payroll systems send PDFs locked with a password. It has to be typed every time, and it stops the file from opening in some apps. This tool decrypts the PDF with the password you give it and saves it without encryption. It does not guess or crack passwords.
- 1Drop the PDF.
- 2If it needs a password to open, type the password and click "Remove password".
- 3A PDF that only blocks printing, copying or editing is unlocked straight away.
- 4Download the unlocked copy.
Frequently asked questions
Can this remove a PDF password I do not know?
No. A PDF that needs a password to open is encrypted with it, and the tool needs that password to decrypt the file. It does not guess or crack passwords.
Why can a restricted PDF be unlocked without a password?
A PDF that opens freely but blocks printing or copying is encrypted with an empty user password. Any reader can already decrypt it, and the restrictions are only a request to the app. The tool saves the decrypted file without them. Only do this with documents you are allowed to use that way.
Does unlocking change the PDF?
Only the encryption is removed. Pages, text, fonts, images, links, bookmarks and form fields are written back as they were. A digital signature will no longer verify, because the file has changed.
Is it safe to unlock a bank statement here?
The PDF and the password stay in your browser. The unlocking runs on your device with qpdf compiled to WebAssembly, and nothing is sent to a server.
Which PDF encryption types are supported?
All the standard ones: 40-bit and 128-bit RC4, 128-bit AES and 256-bit AES, as written by Acrobat, Word, macOS Preview and banking systems.
