How to use the Caption Cleaner

Text copied from ChatGPT, Notion, Google Docs or a website often brings things that look wrong in a post: double asterisks around words, # headings, zero-width spaces, curly quotes and runs of blank lines. The caption cleaner removes those, keeps your emojis unless you ask otherwise, and can move all hashtags to the end of the caption without duplicates.

  1. 1Paste the text you want to post.
  2. 2Switch the cleaning options on or off.
  3. 3Choose to keep, move or remove hashtags.
  4. 4Copy the clean caption.

Frequently asked questions

Why does text from ChatGPT show asterisks on Instagram?

ChatGPT writes markdown, where **word** means bold. Social apps do not render markdown, so the asterisks show as they are. The cleaner removes the markers and keeps the words.

What invisible characters does the caption cleaner remove?

Zero-width spaces, byte order marks, word joiners, soft hyphens, direction marks and Braille blanks. It keeps the zero-width joiner, because emojis such as family and profession emojis need it.

Does moving hashtags to the end remove duplicates?

Yes. Each hashtag appears once, in the order it first appeared. Tags that differ only in capital letters count as the same tag.

What happens to links written in markdown?

A link like [our store](https://example.com) becomes "our store (https://example.com)", so the address is not lost.
