How Unicode bold works
Unicode includes styled copies of the Latin alphabet and digits, meant for mathematical writing. There is a bold A, an italic A, a monospace A and more. They are characters, not formatting, so they survive copy and paste.
Underline and strikethrough work differently. A combining mark is added after each letter and draws the line through or under it.
Make bold text
Letters that have no styled version, such as accented letters, stay as they are.
- Type or paste your text into the bold text generator.
- Pick a style: bold, italic, bold italic, sans bold, sans italic, monospace, underline or strikethrough.
- Copy it and paste it into your post.
When not to use it
- Screen readers may read styled letters one by one, by their full Unicode name, or skip them. People who use them may not get your message.
- Styled words are different characters, so search on LinkedIn and Instagram will not find them.
- Do not style hashtags or your name in a bio. They stop working as hashtags and search terms.
- Use it for one short phrase, not whole paragraphs.
Check the length
Styled letters take up the character limit like normal ones, and X may count some of them double. Count the post before you publish it.
